Money, which represents the prose of life, and which is hardly spoken of in parlors without an apology, is in its effects and laws, as beautiful as roses.
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1832)

For the 8th year running Consult Hyperion brought together leading thinkers from both the public and private sector to discuss a wide range of issues surrounding Digital Money.

This year’s theme was “Digital is Different”

The world of retail electronic payments – the world of digital money – has been developing in interesting ways. Chip and PIN is here now, RFID payments are taking off worldwide, and PayPal dominates the Internet P2P. But now there is another wave of technological innovation coming – NFC, quantum computing, virtual currencies, digital television, and more – and their impact cannot be accurately predicted. Or can it?

Our forum has a reputation for providing genuinely informed debate about the subject of Digital Money. The audience at the event are as well informed as the speakers, which results in interesting debate and discussion. In order to encourage a challenging environment the 2 days are built around interactive panel debates to enable maximum delegate participation.

Agenda

The programme for the forum was divided into 4 sessions, each focussing on a different aspect of Digital Money:

Schrodinger’s Cash – quantum cryptography for beginners
What is quantum cryptography and does it mean a revolution in electronic payments?
Chips and Channels
How are retail e-payments evolving across new channels such as mobile, idTV and the Internet?
Wave cash goodbye
Do RFID and NFC (contactless payments) mean that the cashless economy is back on the horizon?
Virtual worlds, virtual money
What can the growth of online games tell us about the future of digital money (and digital identity)?

Speakers and panellists included representatives from Visa, Barclays Bank, Simpay, Travelex, Essex University, Qpass and many other private and public sector organisations.

The schedule for the event is available online now. Please download it here.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their support.
